Static Characters
There are many static characters in this book, starting with Professor Kirke, the quiet and surprisingly open and friendly owner of the large house where the Pevensie children are staying during the war. Some of the other more noticeable static characters would be Mr. and Mrs. Beaver. who help the Pevensie children hide from the wolves that the White Witch sent to hunt. Mr. Tumnus, a faun, who is quiet and friendly, who wants to do the wrong thing, but cannot bring himself to turn over the Pevensie children to the White Witch, and is turned to stone. Maugrim is a wolf, and the leader of the White Witch's secret police, he is just evil. Father Christmas, who is know to us as Santa Claus is also another static character.
Dynamic Characters
The Pevensie children are all dynamic characters:
Peter Pevensie - Peter is the oldest of the Pevensie children, and he is respectable and brave. He grows into a young man during his first few days in Narnia. He shows this right away when he defends Susan from a wolf that is attacking them. Aslan knights him, and then crowns him the High King of Narnia. During his reign he is known as King Peter the Magnificent.
Susan Pevensie - The second oldest of the Pevensie children, Susan is the pretty one. She is nice and thoughtful, and I think a lot like a normal girl. Santa Claus gave her a horn to blow if she is ever in a dangerous situation. When she is queen at Cair Paravel, she is called Queen Susan the Gentle.
Edmund Pevensie - The third oldest Pevensie child, Edmund is a spoiled little boy who wants his way at the expense of those around him. Edmund is mean and hurtful, and is always teasing his sister, Lucy. He is taken over by a greed because of his want for the Turkish Delight, and this turns him into a traitor against his siblings. Edmund teams up with the White Witch, but after he is mistreated by her, sees that he has done wrong and decides to join his siblings against the White Witch. Aslan eventually pays the ultimate price for Edmunds sins.
Lucy Pevensie - The youngest Pevensie is cheerful, kind, and brave. She is curious, and carefree and is the first of the children to go through the wardrobe and into Narnia. She asks her siblings to help search for her friend, Tumnus, and that is when the real adventure begins. At the start of the book, she could be seen as the protagonist, but it is Aslan who is the real protagonist. Lucy is very positive, unlike her brother Edmund. Santa Claus gives Lucy a cordial, which she uses to heal the wounded following the battle with the Witch's troops. She is known as Queen Lucy the Valiant.
